02.2008 - A cheerful commodity
At a first glance one might think that this is just another common picture of a field of sunflowers, strong, tall plants with bright yellow heads, as you must have seen them many times. There is a big difference in this case since these are Vital Planet's sunflowers, almost ready for harvest. Like at this farm there are already about two thousand other farms in Brazil which are ready to produce this good-looking commodity for Vital Planet.
Growing sunflowers between the harvests of other crops has a positive effect on the quality of the soil, and it fills an income gap for these periods while generating by-products, such as honey, to improve the farmers profitability. For Vital Planet it is a sustainable collaboration with Brazilian cooperative farmers to obtain affordable feedstock for the production of Vital Diesel. Unlike in Europe and other regions with four seasons, these plants grow very fast in warm Brazilian climate, taking just four months from sowing to harvest.
