12.2007 - Clean business

Launching a new type of fuel on the international market, which is the case with Vital Diesel, requires certain licenses from the respective Governmental Agencies. In order to obtain these licenses it is mandatory to have construction and environmental permits to build and operate a biofuel plant. In a country like Brazil there are different cultural and social rules which are incompatible with European standards and our company's Code of Ethics. Besides the fact that 'it was never done before' to obtain a permit for a Vital Diesel biofuel plant, but more importantly, as a result of denying irregular remunerations we have incurred a delay of several months in the licensing procedures.

We previously announced that we are in the possession of the environmental license which has now been replaced by a definite 'license for installation' for the Campos plant. This permit allows us to commence production for off-road applications and for the export market. In order to supply to the on-road market, for which we have announced in newsletter No.3 having sold the entire production of the initial capacity of the Campos plant, we are still in need of a permit from the National Petroleum Agency ANP in Brazil. As we have the 'license for installation' in place and numerous other requirements, including engine testing procedures, contracts with fleet owners, supply and take off agreements, etc. we can finally enter the last stage of the handling of the legal requirements.
